Armenia earmarks 80% of ministry budget for education funding in 2027

Armenia’s draft 2027 state budget allocates approximately 435.9 billion drams to the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, an increase of 15.9 billion drams compared with 2026.

Minister Zhanna Andreasyan presented the figures during preliminary budget discussions at a joint meeting of the National Assembly’s standing committees, 1lurer.am reports.

According to Andreasyan, education will account for 80.4% of the ministry’s budget, which covers 23 programmes and 193 measures.

The draft allocates 30.7 billion drams to science, although the minister said adjustments to this amount remain under discussion. Culture is allocated 23.9 billion drams, sports 25 billion drams and youth affairs 3.3 billion drams.

Andreasyan said the ministry’s budget had nearly tripled in recent years, reflecting both increased funding and an expansion of activities.

She also highlighted the growth in capital expenditure. In 2018, approximately 1.3 billion drams was allocated to capital investments in sectors overseen by the ministry. Actual expenditure reached 129.3 billion drams in 2025, while the 2026 budget earmarked 165.5 billion drams.

The draft 2027 budget envisages a comparable level of capital investment, accounting for 37.7% of the ministry’s total expenditure.

Andreasyan described the increase in capital allocations as significant progress.
