UK fighter jets to be deployed in Libya

The UK Prime Minister said British fighters are being prepared for deployment to the Libyan no-fly zone.

David Cameron told MPs that the UK will commit military assets to enforce a no-fly zone in the skies over Libya.

In a statement to the Commons he said aircraft, including Tornado and Typhoon jets, will be moved to bases from where they could "start to take the necessary action".

The move follows a UN Security Council resolution last night authorising "all necessary measures" to enforce a no-fly zone and protect civilians from Colonel Muammar Gaddafi's forces.

Mr Cameron said: "At Cabinet this morning, we agreed the UK will play its part.

"Our forces will join an international operation to enforce the resolution if Gaddafi fails to comply with its demand that he ends attacks on civilians," The Telegraph quoted him as saying.
