The Armenian Parliament has passed a law on increasing the minimal salary up to 13 thousand Armenian drams ($22). The law first of all refers to the 35 thousand budget officers, whose salary today varies within the limits of 5-13 thousand drams. In the words of social security minister Aghvan Vardanian, the law will also apply to the private sector, which will considerably cut down shadow employment and will increase the budget tax receipts. It should be noted that at present the minimal salary in Armenia makes 5 thousand drams ($9).
