PUNISHMENT FOR COMMITMENT OF ACTS OF TERRORISM AND KILLING POLITICIANS MADE SEVERER IN ARMENIA

The Armenian parliament has approved the changes into the Criminal Code, according to which people serving life sentence for commitment of acts of terrorism and assassination of political and public figures are deprived of the right for pre-term conditional release. The bill was introduced by “Justice” opposition bloc faction, whose representative noted that changes are first of all made for criminals, who had committed the act of terrorism in the Armenian parliament in October 1999, could not count on pre-term conditional release. It should be reminded that Armenian prime minister Vazgen Sargsian, National Assembly Speaker Karen Demirchian, vice-speakers, a minister and three deputies were killed in the act of terrorism October 27, 1999. It should also be noted that the state prosecution has demanded to sentence five immediate executors of the act of terrorism to life imprisonment.
