The United States is concerned over oppression and violence against human rights advocates and opposition presidential candidates by Azeri authorities, says a special statement by press secretary of the US Department of State Richard Baucher in connection with the presidential election in Azerbaijan October 15. “We call Azerbaijan to fulfill its obligations on securing its citizens and protecting their rights, including those of freedom of gatherings,” says the statement. R. Baucher also called official Baku to invite representatives of US National Democratic Institute to observe the election.
