Official Yerevan expects the talks over the Karabakh conflict settlement to continue from the point they were suspended at. Armenian foreign minister Vardan Oskanian told “Liberty” radio station. In his words, the Armenian and Azeri presidents “have made significant progress, a rather good foundation for further negotiations is established.” The minister noted that in the course of discussions of the issue held with the US leadership and colleagues from other countries “impossibility to disregard the recent processes and current situation formed on their basis” was accentuated. Answering the question on the accusations made by Azeri prime minister Ilham Aliyev against Armenia, V. Oskanian emphasized, “the reasoning and analysis of the Azeri premier are juggled.” “We understand that Ilham Aliyev is a presidential hopeful and is trying to please his people. But we are concerned that after such statements their authors drive themselves into a corner, from which it is hard to escape after the election,” he said. At that the minister did not rule out that Ilham Aliyev’s statements on Nagorno Karabakh are not simply electoral statements, and his stand over the issue might be harder. “However, what is promised by him if far from being real and the people of Azerbaijan is doomed to disappointment, as current international processes, including those within the OSCE Minsk Group, follow a totally different pattern from the one I. Aliyev is trying to present in his addresses,” the Armenian foreign ministry head stressed.
