Russia and the US have ceased the uncompromising struggle for the South Caucasus, Armenian deputy foreign minister Ruben Shugarian said the other day in an interview placed on “Network of Caucasus Journalists” website. In his words, after the known events taken place in New York September 11, 2001, serious shifts have occurred in the Russian-American relations. This does not mean that competition has totally disappeared. But the uncompromising struggle for spheres of influence, including in the former Soviet Union territory, is not present anymore. What happened in the energy sphere of Georgia evidences mutual respect of political and economic interests of those two influential countries in our region, R. Shugarian noted. Touching upon the Russian business entry to the Armenian economy, Ruben Shugarian noted that the accession of any country’s business to Armenia has a positive impact on the economic situation in the country. In his words, everything depends not on the country, but the efficiency of investments.
