LIFE IMPRISONMENT SENTENCE PASSED IN ARMENIA FOR FIRST TIME

For the first time two accused are sentenced to life imprisonment in Armenia. Yesterday the corresponding verdict, as reported by “Arminfo” agency, was passed by court of first instance of the Shengavit community of Yerevan regarding Artur Galstian and Mikael Martirosian, recognizing them guilty in committing a premeditated murder under aggravating circumstances June 5 this year. It should be reminded that the former Criminal Code of the country provided for death penalty as extreme penalty for such a cruel crime. It should be noted that Artur Galstian and Mikael Martirosian expressed discontent with the too severe in their opinion court verdict and their advocates have indicated intention to appeal against the sentence.
