Today press service of Patronal Ejmiatsin refuted the reports about Caucasian Muslims’ spiritual leader Allahshukur Pashazade’s appeal to Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II “to take measures against destruction of historical and spiritual values in the territories being under Armenia’s control.” Saint Ejmiatsin press service reports that in fact Azeri spiritual leader’s appeal was the reply to the complaint sent by Garegin II and containing a call to Allahshukur Pashazade to mediate in the prevention of destruction of numerous Armenian gravestones in the cemetery of the Old Julfa in Nakhichevan. Muslims’ spiritual leader, in his turn, reckoned Armenian gravestones among Albanian historical monuments and “pressed arguments” proving the facts of destruction of Azeri monuments in Nagorno Karabakh territory, particularly in Shushi and Zangelan. In this connection head of Artsakh Bishopric of Armenian Apostolic Church Pargev Martirosian said that such statements are groundless and that no single monument had been destructed in the territory of Nagorno Karabakh after the completion of military operations in the 90-th of the last century. Statements of such character uttered by Azeri party in no way contribute to the efforts aimed at consolidation of peace and stability in the South Caucasus, the report of Patronal Ejmiatsin press service runs.
