Next year Armenia intends to increase the expenses provided for defense, according to Armenian defense minister, Defense Council Secretary Serge Sargsian. In his words, as compared to the current year a big sum for the defense expenses will be invested in the state budget for 2004. At the same time the minister did not mention any certain figures. S. Sargsian also reported about the intention to extend the range of domestic manufacture goods to satisfy the needs of the Armenian army. According to him, the defense expenses in the Armenian state budget for 2003 comprised 44,3 billion drams ($76,6), thus being a bit more than 13% of the budget outlay.
