UNIQUE VIOLONCELLO OF GUARNERI RETURNED TO ARMENIA

A 17-th century violoncello of Italian violin-maker Andrea Guarneri, taken out from Armenia in 1982, has been returned to Yerevan from Lvov. As reported by the ministry of culture of Armenia, the other day the musical instrument was officially passed to Armenian ambassador to Ukraine Amen Khachatrian. The Guarneri violoncello was bought by the ministry of culture of Armenia in 1948 in Moscow and was part of the state collection of rare stringed instruments for many years. However, in 1982 the violoncello was taken from Armenia and within the past nine years it was kept in Lvov. Owing to the good will of the Lvov authorities, as well as due to the efforts of the city Armenian community the violoncello was returned to Armenia.
