The US Department of State has called the leadership of Azerbaijan to speed up the consideration of cases of those arrested due to events referring to the presidential election held October 15. As State Department deputy spokesman Adam Ereli said the other day, “we consider that the Azeri authorities have either to prove the guilt of those arrested or to release them.” He also called the Azeri leadership to consider those cases in compliance with international standards, having provided the accused with the necessary advocacy protection, Arminfo agency reported. It should be reminded that resulting from disorders in Baku the day after the elections, 100 people, including a number of opposition leaders, were arrested.
