The CIS countries are of “key importance” in respect securing Russia, acting defense minister of Russia Sergey Ivanov stated in an interview with “Figaro” newspaper. “The official doctrine of the defense department provides for creating a security belt around Russia,” the minister said, adding the matter does not concern either Moscow putting military pressure on those countries or Russia pursuing “neo-imperialistic” policy.
