“Not the Government, but the Constitutional Court and the National Assembly makes the decision on sending the military to Iraq. We should not forget that after we made such a decision certain changes occurred in the conditions, under which we gave the preliminary consent,” Armenian Prime Minister Andranik Margarian stated at a press briefing yesterday. He reminded that as humanitarian assistance it was planned to sent 50 people to Iraq: physicians, sappers and drivers. The Premier noted that besides the Armenians of Iraq, Armenian communities, especially in Arab countries, political forces in Armenia and the Diaspora expressed concern over the consequences of the move in question. “We are also concerned thereupon. It may result in Armenia becoming a target for terrorists,” the Armenian Government head noted. In his opinion, all this should be taken into consideration and the decision should proceed from the national security interests of Armenia and situation in Iraq.
