Pashinyan outlines expansion of environmental protection service

Illegal logging, poaching and unlawful exploitation of natural resources unfortunately continue in Armenia, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at the opening of the plenary session of the Biodiversity Leaders’ Summit.

He added that the authorities intend to develop the Eco-Patrol Service both technically and in terms of its operational capabilities, 1lurer.am reported.

“To address these problems as well, we began establishing the Eco-Patrol Service in Armenia just two years ago. Essentially, it is an environmental police force. It currently operates in four of our ten provinces, and we will gradually introduce it in the remaining provinces as well.

“The service’s mission is to ensure round-the-clock protection of nature, and we intend to develop it in terms of technical capabilities, operational effectiveness, and the professionalism and integrity of its employees,” the prime minister said.

The 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) will take place at the Meridian Expo Center in Yerevan from October 19 to 30, 2026.
