Vayots Dzor military commissar Gagik Grigoryan is accused of accepting a bribe in exchange for arranging an unlawful deferment from compulsory military service.
The Armenian Anti-Corruption Committee confirmed that two other individuals were arrested in the same criminal proceedings, Sputnik Armenia reports.
According to the committee, the investigation concerns alleged giving and receiving of bribes. Grigoryan, an official of a territorial division of the Defense Ministry’s Republican Military Commissariat, has been remanded in custody.
The Hraparak daily had reported approximately two weeks earlier that Grigoryan had been taken into custody in connection with a bribery case.
Hraparak also reported that Grigoryan is the brother of Gevorg Grigoryan, head of the Vayk Police Division of the Interior Ministry, and alleged that he has close ties with Deputy Defense Minister Arman Sargsyan.
Grigoryan’s office has been sealed, reportedly preventing local residents from obtaining certificates and other documents from the military commissariat in recent days.
