Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will not attend the 13th summit of the Organization of Turkic States, scheduled to take place in Turkey.
The decision is reportedly due to the need to attend previously scheduled events in Baku and the president’s heavy workload, Minval.az reports.
Earlier, on October 21, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan invited Aliyev to participate in the 13th summit of the Organization of Turkic States.
However, the Azerbaijani side stated that Aliyev’s work schedule would not allow him to accept the invitation. In particular, Baku is scheduled to host the final match of the FIFA Under-15 World Championship and Festival on October 30, along with the official closing ceremony. These events are being held in the Azerbaijani capital for the first time.
Azerbaijan will be represented by Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.
Recently, certain tensions have emerged between Azerbaijan and Turkey, with the ban on wearing hijabs in Azerbaijani schools serving as a pretext. Against this backdrop, several Turkish experts and officials, including an adviser to the Turkish president who was subsequently dismissed, have called Aliyev a dictator and an enemy of Islam.
