Armenia has not withdrawn its claims against Azerbaijan from international judicial bodies, Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff Lilit Makunts said, commenting on the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace process.
“Armenia will not abandon the defense of its interests before any international judicial body,” she said, according to Aysor.am.
Makunts said that, within the framework of the peace process, a decision could be made to mutually withdraw the legal claims filed by Armenia and Azerbaijan against each other.
“That would be possible if Armenia and Azerbaijan finally sign the peace treaty,” she said.
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) recently rejected Azerbaijan’s request for review of a judgment in the case of Armenian serviceman Hayk Toroyan, who was tortured and beheaded during the April 2016 war.
Azerbaijan had sought referral of the case to the ECHR’s Grand Chamber. On November 2, a five-judge panel rejected the request, making the June 18 judgment final.
