Court extends Gagik Beglaryan’s pretrial detention by two months

A court on November 4 extended the pretrial detention of Armenia’s former minister of transport and communications, Gagik Beglaryan, by another two months, Hraparak reports.

Beglaryan’s lawyer, Hrant Ananyan, called the decision unlawful and said the defense intended to appeal it. He noted that the defense had not yet received the written court ruling.

“For five months, they have been citing risks of obstruction, yet they are not carrying out any investigative actions,” Ananyan said.

Beglaryan’s detention had previously been extended by two months.

The former minister faces charges of abuse of official authority and money laundering on an especially large scale. He denies the allegations.
