Artsakh representatives welcome opposition unity initiative, regret exclusion

Representatives of Artsakh’s former authorities have welcomed an initiative to unite Armenian opposition forces but expressed regret at not being included in its discussions or formation.

Artsakh State Minister Nzhdeh Iskandaryan said in a Facebook post that national priorities should take precedence over political disagreements, emphasizing the need for unity and cooperation.

However, he criticized the absence of Artsakh representatives from the initiative, arguing that the rights of displaced Artsakh Armenians and their collective right of return must remain part of Armenia’s national agenda.

Iskandaryan said nationwide unity could not be complete without Artsakh’s participation and expressed hope that its representatives would be included in future discussions.

The statement follows a November 4 meeting organized by Narek Karapetyan, identified as head of the Strong Armenia parliamentary faction, with representatives of several opposition groups at the home of party leader Samvel Karapetyan.

Participants announced a nationwide unity initiative advocating peace without unilateral concessions or territorial losses, protection of national identity and the Armenian Apostolic Church, and restoration of democratic rights and freedoms.

The initiative also opposes what its participants describe as the imposition of an “Aliyev constitution.”
