DEFENDANT IN CASE OF ATTEMPT ON LIFE OF ARMENIAN DEFENSE MINISTER MAY BE SENTENCED TO 7 YEARS OF IMPRISONMENT

Seven years of imprisonment threaten the defendant in the case of an attempt on life of Armenian Defense Minister Serge Sargsian, Levon Abrahamian. The prosecutor demanded such a term of imprisonment at a court sitting in Yerevan yesterday, “Arminfo” agency reported. In his accusatory speech the prosecutor said that the attempt was planned by the former employee of the National Security Service of Armenia Levon Abrahamian and a certain citizen of Stepanakert Araik Narimanian on the day of marriage of President Robert Kocharian’s son, where Serge Sargsian was invited as well. In the prosecutor’s words, the defendant’s final aim was, according to his own testimony, the change of authority in Armenia. To executive the attempt, Narimanian suggested Abrahamian a radio-controlled explosive for $500. On September 15 the malefactors were caught by officers of the National Security Service of Armenia when passing the explosive assembly in Tumanian Street of Yerevan. At the request of the defendant Abrahamian’s lawyer, the next sitting of the court is postponed for several days for preparation of the final speech.
